2020 Madrigal Auditions FAQ
Please read thoroughly before deciding to audition.
Q: What will the Madrigal groups look like this year?
A: The exact groups will be formed after auditions. Students must stand 10 feet apart while singing, therefore each group will consist of 12-16 students so that we can use the rehearsal spaces within the music department while maintaining social distancing guidelines.
Q: When will the groups rehearse?
A: We ask that you block off Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30-6pm. Once the groups are formed, specific times within these slots will be assigned. Please understand that a lot of individual learning and practicing will have to be done outside of rehearsal.
Q: Will I be required to wear a mask while singing?
Q: What happens if we can no longer rehearse in person?
A: We will send repertoire for you to listen to and practice at home in the event that we return to in-person rehearsal and are able to record/virtually perform in the near future.
Q: Who can audition for Madrigals?
A: Any student taking a curricular choir class may audition; however, please note that due to the circumstances this year, priority will be given to upperclassmen.
Q: Should I audition for Madrigals?
A: Because of the limited time/space and the scaled-down nature of this production, please only audition for Madrigals if you are 100% sure that you can and want to commit to the program. All of us will be adjusting to a new norm this year; if you will have difficulty balancing your workload and dedicating the time to rehearsals/at-home practicing and still choose to participate, please consider that you may be taking the opportunity away from someone who can and wants to commit. Thoroughly consider your decision, and please discuss with your parents/guardians.
Also, it is important to note that nothing this semester is guaranteed. We will strive to perform in any capacity that we can, but due to the fluidity of decisions made around the spread of COVID-19, we must keep our expectations at bay. We want to stay as optimistic as possible while also understanding that what is allowed to happen this month may not be allowed to happen next month.
Q: Will there be Madrigal Actors or Instrumentalists this year?
A: Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate these groups this year.
Q: Is there a fee associated with participation?
A: Yes, the standard fee for all singers will be $50, which will include apparel and recording. However, we will not charge this fee until the end of the season.
Q: What about the dinners? Costumes? Parent volunteering?
A: Please read this formal statement regarding production logistics.
