NATIONAL MUSIC HONOR SOCIETY
What
is Tri-M?
Tri-M is a Music Honor Society started by the Music Educators
Nation Conference (MENC). It stands for Modern Music Masters. This is
an honor society for orchestra, band, and choir students. The organization
will provide community service to the Lincoln-Way East Music Department
and the entire Lincoln-Way community.
How do I become a member?
Complete the application and all terms of consideration (solo or paper.)
Turn in all paperwork to Mrs. Lambert, chapter advisor. You will be
notified by letter of your invitation to join.
What are the commitments once I become a member?
You will be required to do five hours of community service to the music
department per semester, attend at least two meetings per semester,
stay enrolled in a music performance class (band, choir, or orchestra),
and maintain the standard GPA requirements. An initial fee of $15.00
is due for your first year of membership. The second year membership
fee is $5.00.
What will the group do?
Providing service to the department will include the following: door
monitors/ushers for music dept. events, the Sock and Mitten Tree at
the annual Kaleidoscope concert, community outreach, i.e. performing
at retirement homes, etc. as well as attending music events in the area.
The rest is up to you! This is a brand new organization for Lincoln-Way
East and YOU will have the power to set the standard!
What are the requirements for membership?
- be
enrolled in a music performance class the entire school year
- be
a junior or senior student
- have
a 3.0 overall GPA for only the semester prior to your application
for membership
- have
a 3.5 GPA in MUSIC CLASSES for only the semester prior to your application
for membership
- perform
a solo on your instrument for the faculty committee or write a paper
on an assigned topic
IT IS AN
HONOR TO BE INVITED TO MEMBERSHIP! Therefore, we enforce high membership
standards.
