ACAFELLAZ
This male glee club rehearses once a week and is open to all men regardless of current membership in a choral organization. A wide range of literature is performed and at least two concert appearances are made each year. Members of the Singing Griffins may participate in IHSA Music contest and the spring musical.

BLUE NOTES
These select female ensembles rehearse once a week and are open to all women in A Cappella Choir, Concert Chorale & Treble Choir by audition. The groups perform a wide range of music in the lighter style.

BLUE REVUE - JAZZ CHOIR
This vocal jazz ensemble is open to men and women in grades 11 & 12 who wish to pursue singing in the vocal jazz idiom. The ensemble rehearses during study hall each day and one evening each week. The literature is generally of moderate to high difficulty. The ensemble meets during the second semester only.

JAZZ ENSEMBLES
The music department sponsors the L-W East Jazz Band which performs at various Concerts, Jazz Festivals, and community events. The band presents music in a wide variety of styles. Membership is open to all students currently enrolled in a Lincoln-Way Band. Exceptions will be made for special instrumentation and must be approved by the director and music department chairman.

MADRIGAL SINGERS, MADRIGAL LADIES and TROUBADOURS
The premier vocal ensemble has been in existence for the past 30 years presenting the annual Madrigal Dinner Concerts in December. The Madrigal Singers are selected by audition from members of the A Cappella Choir. Members of the Concert Chorale, Treble Choir, and Singing Griffins help with the production of the dinners each year. The ensemble rehearses during study hall each day and at least one evening each week.

MARCHING GRIFFINS
The Marching Griffins is Lincoln-Way East’s traveling and competing marching unit. The roster includes, in addition to the playing block of winds, the Griffins Color Guard and an award winning drumline. Participation begins with fundamental instruction and music/marching auditions in May. When selected for membership, student involvement continues with summer drills and parade performances. All members are expected to attend the L-W Summer Band Camp for intensive marching drill and music rehearsals. After school begins, additional drills are held a minimum of three days a week after school, while most fall weekends are given over to performances or special rehearsals. The season culminates in the annual “Sounds of the Stadium” Marching Band Concert.
Each member of the Marching Griffin is expected to make a full commitment to the organization in terms of both faithful attendance and maximum effort. Excuses from rehearsal or performances are not allowed except for illness or death in the immediate family.

PEP BAND
The Pep Band provides music and enthusiasm to the home Griffin basketball games. The selection process takes place after the Marching Griffin season.

SPRING MUSICAL
Any student of Lincoln-Way East High School may audition for the spring musical. The musicals of Lincoln-Way enjoy a prestigious tradition of quality due to the great commitment of the people involved. Students may be in the cast or on the production staff. Rehearsals begin in late February with the performance in early May.

WINTER PERCUSSION
The Lincoln-Way East Winter Percussion Ensemble is open to any student currently enrolled in the Lincoln-Way East Bands. Using percussion instruments, the 30 member percussion ensemble performs throughout the community, state, and nation. All rehearsals and performances are required and are held after school or on the weekends. Clinicians, and percussion specialists are utilized to enhance the performance of the ensemble. Members qualify for the ensemble through auditions held after the marching season. The activity develops the students both mentally and physically. Membership is open to all students involved in the Lincoln-Way East Music Program or by special invitation of the directors. Competitions and performances run through April.

WINTER GUARD
The Lincoln-Way East Winter Guard is an active member in the Midwest Color Guard Circuit. Through music, the 30 member organization responds to the emotions and stimuli with the use of dance, props, and color guard equipment. The activity develops the students both mentally and physically. Membership is open to all students involved in the Lincoln-Way East Music Program or by special invitation of the directors. Rehearsals are required and are held after school and on the weekends. The Guard travels extensively throughout the Midwest. They have earned national recognition, by successfully competing in the Winter Guard International Competition. Auditions are held in November and competitions run through April.
