District #210 Code of Conduct

Lincoln-Way High School is proud of the students who represent the school in extra-curricular activities. We believe in the valuable results of mental, social, and physical development of our student body. The students need to understand that they represent the Lincoln-Way High School student body year-round. Participation in Lincoln-Way activities is a privilege, and each person participating in these activities must accept the responsibilities that go along with the participation. Each student participant must agree to abide by the following rules and regulations, seven days a week, twelve months a year, whether or not school is in session.

REQUIREMENTS

The student must:
1. provide written consent of participation from parent(s) or guardian(s).
2. demonstrate compliance with all rules and regulations of the Illinois High School Association where applicable and Lincoln-Way Community High School s rules and policies as found in the Parent-Student Handbook.
3. make known special health conditions to the individual supervisor of the activity and, if applicable, submit an annual physical exam stating that the student is able to participate.
4. annually attend a Code of Conduct seminar at the beginning of each students first extra-curricular activity. The student and a parent or guardian will be required to attend. Failure to do so will result in the student becoming ineligible to participate until such compliance is met.
5. submit a signed "Code of Conduct" contract.
6. submit a completed "Medical Information/Permission Form." (Athletes only)

RULES FOR PARTICIPANTS
1. Possession, use, distribution or sale of drugs, look alike drugs, controlled substances, alcohol, tobacco and tobacco products by a Lincoln-Way student will not be permitted. This rule applies seven (7) days a week, twelve (12) months a year without exception. Violation of this Code of Conduct rule will result in an investigation to determine what penalty options will be enforced.
2. Inappropriate language, profanity, or misconduct are prohibited.
3. The deliberate misuse of any school equipment will not be tolerated.
4. A person will not be allowed to participate in school activities if they are absent from school on that day. Pre-excuses and emergencies will not be considered absences. A member who is in attendance for one-half (1/2) day on the day of the event will be eligible to participate. A person who is absent on Friday will be eligible to participate in a Saturday/Sunday event.
5. All students should report all injuries, no matter how trivial, to the person in charge.
6. Any reputable adult reporting a violation of this Code will give cause to the adult supervisor to investigate and evaluate the situation and report the findings to the appropriate administrator.
7. Each supervisor has the right to add additional rules for the benefit of the individual activity.

VOLUNTARY ADMISSION
If a student voluntarily reports an infraction of the substance abuse rules prior to public record, it will not result in a suspension from the activity but will count as a first offense. The student will be required to attend an educational substance abuse program that has been approved by the school district. The purpose of this provision is to allow a student to seek help. Voluntary admission may NOT be used by a student if the rule infraction is already known by the school. Voluntary admission may be used by the student only one time.

CONSEQUENCES FOR VIOLATION OF THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE RULE

FOR FIRST AND SUBSEQUENT OFFENSES:

A letter will be sent to the parents or guardians of the student notifying them of the violation. Within one week of the letter's issuance a meeting must be scheduled between the student, the student's parent(s) or guardian(s), program administrator, the supervisor of the activity involved, and any other adult deemed appropriate to review the incident and discuss the penalty that will be imposed. When a violation of the Code of Conduct is found to be potentially dangerous to the health and/or well being of others, the participant may be denied the privilege of participating in the Lincoln-Way High School extra-curricular program for the remainder of his/her high school career.

FIRST OFFENSE
1. Drugs, Alcohol

Penalty Option One. The student will:

1. Attend an educational substance abuse program that has been approved by the school district. It is strongly recommended that a parent or guardian attend the program with the student.
2. Obtain written verification of attendance at the substance abuse program from an official of the program. The student must attend enough of these educational program meetings to satisfy the school's requirements.
3. There will be a minimum suspension of five participation days. During this time, the student will be expected to get confirmation of the enrollment in the substance abuse program. This confirmation must be given to the program administrator. At the conclusion of the five-day suspension, the program administrator may put the student back into the extra-curricular program. The student will not participate during this five-day participation suspension.

If the violation occurs during the season, the student will be suspended immediately from participating in the remainder of the season, and the suspension will extend into the student's next activity season until the equivalency of one complete season is reached.2.
Tobacco - The use of tobacco will cause the participant to attend a mandatory awareness program instituted through the high school. There will be a minimum suspension of three participation days. During this time, the student will be expected to get confirmation of the enrollment in the awareness program. This confirmation must be given to the program administrator. At the conclusion of the three-day suspension, the program administrator may put the student back into the extra-curricular program. The student will not participate during this three-day participation suspension.

The student and parent may petition for reinstatement to the building principal.
