Before the ceremonies begin

Don't think these barricades will stop our Griffins.

Mr. Smith coordinates the batterie today.

The Mokena Memorial Day
parade route stops at three cemeteries located within blocks on Wolf Road in Mokena. The first stop is St. Mary Cemetery.

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave

You're the emblem of the land I love,
The home of the free and the brave.

At St. Mary Cemetery the Lincoln-Way Central Marching Knights participate in the ceremonies. At each of the three cemeteries, prayers are read along with the names of all buried veterans. This is followed by a twenty one gun salute, and the laying of flowers. One of the three Bands then plays in respect for those who gave their lives for our freedoms.

Lincoln-Way ROTC cadets are a fitting presence at the ceremonies.

The Knights of Columbus lead the group out of St. Mary Cemetery.

Director Mr. Wellman proudly watches his Knights.

Meet Ms. Piasecki. The two of us have much in common. Our children joined the Marching Knights way back before the school split. This year we both say goodbye to the High School Marching programs as we watch our youngest children move on and graduate. It was a teary day for us both. Where did the time go?

The parade begins to move on to the next stop.

Proud members of the VFW lead the way.

Joining the parade are the cub scouts.

The White Knight waits to follow its band.

The leading band today is the Mokena Junior High Meteors.
