It is 8 A.M. and the Lincoln-Way East band room is open.
The Marching Griffins prepare for the Memorial Day
Parade in Mokena.

"You know what Memorial Day also means? - the school year is almost over!"

Time to board the buses.

Minutes later we've arrived at the Mokena Public Library. This is where the bands warm-up as well as line-up.

The Griffins' batterie immediately begins to warm-up.

Color Guard also begins to unravel their flags and equipment.

You can always get the best smiles from this group.

Wind musicians meet with Mr. Johnson to also warm-up.

So where's Bob?

Weapons warm-up

East of the Griffins we see the Lincoln-Way Central Knights warming-up too.

Isn't this a lovely setting?

On the other side of the parking lot we see the Mokena Junior High Meteors also warming-up. As is customary, all three bands, the Griffins, Knights, and Meteors will march today.

Mr. Johnson commends the batterie. They are wearing black arm bands in honor of one of their own. Louis Kim was a former member of the Marching Griffins Drumline who died Tuesday, February 20, 2007 from wounds suffered when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire in Ramadi, Iraq, according to the Department of Defense. Today is a fitting day to commemorate and celebrate the spirit of Kim.

Griffins prepare to line-up to join the parade.
