Concert Band
Semesters: 2
Credits: 1
Grade Placement: 9, 10, 11, or 12
Graduation Requirement: Elective. Meets the fine arts graduation requirement.
Course Sequence: Previous instrumental experience is advantageous.
Other Prerequisites: Band placement audition in early spring.
Student and Staff Organization:
Traditional. Group instruction is balanced with individual attention and assessment.
Course Overview:
The Concert Band is a performing ensemble with its own schedule of public appearances, including concerts at Lincoln-Way. The members of the Concert Band are encouraged to perform in the IHSA Solo/Ensemble Contest during the year. All members are eligible to participate in any music department extra curricular activity. Members are expected to practice individually and in extra rehearsals or sectionals. Private instruction is highly encouraged. It is strongly recommended that students own their own instruments; however, specialized school owned instruments may be available with a rental fee.

Course Overview:
The Wind Symphony is a highly selected organization with controlled instrumentation that limits enrollment to approximately 70 students. The Wind Symphony has a very active performance schedule throughout the school year, including regularly scheduled concerts, specialty programs, IMEA, and IHSA festivals and contests. In addition, members of the Wind Symphony are expected to perform in the IHSA Solo/Ensemble Contest during the year. All members are eligible to participate in any music extra curricular activity. Members are expected to practice individually and in extra rehearsals or sectionals. Private instruction is highly encouraged. Course Overview:
The Wind Ensemble is the most select performance ensemble at Lincoln-Way East High School. This very talented group holds specific instrumentation and a maximum enrollment of approximately 38 musicians. The Wind Ensemble has a very active performance schedule including local concerts, IHSA music contests, and numerous festivals and competitions throughout the state. Students in this group are expected to study with a private lesson teacher on their instrument and participate in the IHSA Solo/Ensemble Contest during the year.
