GENERAL MEETING
Wednesday, APRIL 18, 2007 Minutes

Tom Blakley called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.

Secretary's Report
Mary Ellen Pifko made a motion to approve the minutes; Dave Drenner seconded. Motion carried.

Treasurer's Reports
Mike Kaczmarski reported that interest has been added to the Scholarship Fund and IBA additions have been made. A $1,200 grant has been received from the Puffin Group, and deposits for the upcoming Band Camp and Leadership Retreat have been made. He explained that all the income from the Flower Sale was added in March, but all expenses will be posted in April. Transfers to IBAs will be done in May. Holiday Bowl travel payments are still coming in; Bill Geary is still working on collecting outstanding travel payments.

Doug Pifko made a motion to approve; Jean Stanker seconded. Motion carried.

IBA Updates
Bill Geary reported that he has the IBA account balances and encouraged seniors to use their funds prior to graduation.

Communications Report
Joyce Eriks reported that the newsletter went out last week.

Ways and Means Report
Tom McKay thanked everyone who helped with the Guard Home Show. Profits of nearly $4,800 have been deposited. This ends the fund raising season for 2006-2007.

Car wash sign-up sheets were available for the June car wash fund raiser. Businesses for the SIAM cards need to be contacted and volunteers are needed to help do this.

Tom McKay is looking forward to another busy year of fund raising.

SIAM: Dave and Lisa Drenner thanked everyone for their help during the last 5-6 years of SIAM.

Current Business

New Board Members (East and North)
Tom Blakley introduced the slate for Booster offices for next year. There will be elected positions for both schools. Tom introduced Sue Ann Del Vicario, North President-elect; Dean Schuldt-North Treasurer-elect; North Ways and Means-open; Dan Jiracek , North Communications; Jean Stanker, East President-Elect, Angela Jones, East Treasurer-Elect; Secretary-still open; Gary Watland, East Ways and Means Terry Shuh-East Communications. There were no nominations from the floor.

Steve Garbaciak made a motion to approve the Board as presented; Dave Drenner seconded. A vote was taken and the slate was accepted. Motion carried.

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny-Recap
Tom Blakley reported that approximately $5,000 was made from the Bunny Breakfast. Nearly 1,000 tickets were sold compared to 1,200 last year. Spirit wear was sold during the breakfast. Tom thanked everyone who helped during the breakfast.

Flower Sale
There were sign-up sheets for helping with the flower sale pick-up on May 11th. Volunteers can also contat Marcia Montet to signup. Truck unloading will start at 8:00. There are two shifts for volunteers to help during flower pick up.

Music Banquet
The Music Banquet will be on May 20th. Order forms are available online.

Band Camp
Mike Albert introduced himself and explained that he will be helping to coordinate band camp this coming year. Anyone interested in chaperoning should see him; particularly freshmen and sophomore parents.

Tux & Dresses
Cindy Heath explained that the tuxes and dresses will be collected after the last concert. She needs volunteers to help.

Staff Comments
Mr. Johnson reported that Mr. and Mrs. Smith had a baby girl on April 14th. Her name is Piper Lily Smith. Mom and baby are doing well.

Winter Guard competed in Nationals last weekend. The Winter Guard I finished 20th out of 160 guards. Mr. Johnson thanked the McKays for all their help.

State contest is this weekend; 11 groups are performing. He will need some parent volunteers for contest.

Rehearsals for the spring musical are going well. There will be a special performance for about 1,400 students from the Chicago Public Schools.

The Jazz Showcase is scheduled for the end of the month.

Mr. Calhoon will be the new Music Department Chair for East; he will begin attending Booster meetings soon. Ben Collins has been hired at East, and he will take over as the marching band director after the split. Mr. Johnson explained that he is a very young, enthusiastic teacher and is very excited about joining the department. He will be Assistant Marching Band Director this year. Most other staff members will be staying at East after the split, and Mr. Johnson will be hiring new staff members.

Karen McKay made a motion to adjourn at 7:47 pm. Dave Drenner seconded. Motion carried.
