Tom Blakley called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. Secretary’s Report: Debbie Blakley made the motion to approve; Karen Lezon seconded. Motion carried. Treasurer’s Reports: Mike Kaczmarski gave an overview of the financial reports. The Butter Braid and cookie dough fund raisers were very successful; more than $9,000 was added to IBAs. Payment #7 of $250 for the trip is due tomorrow. Effective immediately, a fee of 1.75% will be charged on all credit card payments, instead of the former $3 fee. He noted there is a lot of activity in the joint account, but the amount is only half East’s funds. Mike congratulated the McKays on their hard work on the car raffle, which was very successful. A payment of over $31,000 has been made towards the San Diego trip, and another large payment will be due soon. The ISU Tailgate Party should end close to the budgeted loss of $600. Mike briefly went over additions and the budgeted amounts. There were no questions. Don Gray made a motion to approve the report; Debbie Blakley seconded. Motion carried. IBA Updates: Bill Geary reported over $9,000 was deposited into IBA accounts. You can see Bill if you need your child’s balance. An additional $4,800 will be deposited into IBA accounts from the wreath sale. He encouraged everyone to get their trip payments current. Communications Report: Joyce Eriks reported that the newsletter was sent out last week as well as email updates and phone tree calls. Submit information for the newsletter to Joyce for next month. Ways and Means Report: Tom McKay reported that 1,728 Car raffle tickets were sold, about 70 percent more than last year. We are now the no. 1 seller of Butter Braids in the Midwest. We are now the no. 1 cookie dough seller in this Midwest also. Market Days sales are not reaching our budgeted goals and Tom encouraged everyone to order. There will be a home Winter Guard Show this year to help raise money because we have two Winter Guard units this year. The Cupid Raffle is coming up in January. Kris Lindley wants everyone to remember that this will be a “highly recommended” fund raiser for music student participation. He suggested the tickets be sent home right after the holidays. Steve Therriault suggested that parents be reminded that the Boosters hired and paid for more instructors this year, and had a very successful marching season. In order to continue at the current level, participation in fund raisers is highly suggested and really needed. Old Business: SIAM: Tom McKay and Dave Drenner thanked all the SIAM volunteers. They will continue collecting monies for cards purchased at local stores. Field Show: Sue Davis and Steve Garbaciak thanked Joyce for all her help in sending out reminders and recruiting volunteers. They also thanked all the volunteers. Any suggestions for future shows should be emailed to Steve to begin planning for next year. We are waiting for final figures from Central. ISU Tailgate: Kris Lindley reported that he was very happy with the amount of volunteers helping at the Tailgate Party. It was a nice event. Additional chairpersons will be needed next year. Steve thanked the freshman and sophomore parents who stepped up and helped this year. We fed about 470 people this year. Current Business: Madrigals Help Wanted: Kitchen helpers are still needed. There are still some tickets available for the Wednesday performance. Uniforms: Uniforms must be cleaned following the last football game and ready for the San Diego trip. Uniforms must be hung on wooden hangers for the trip. Uniforms will be turned in during the San Diego trip so any parents who want pictures of their students in their uniform must have them taken prior to the trip. San Diego Parent Trip Update: Steve Therriault reported that the flight information for all parents signed up for the trip has been changed and is now posted on the website. The website is itbna.com/groups. There will be transportation between the airport and the hotel for parents. There will be a representative available at all times. Packets will be distributed prior to the trip with all the pertinent information. The students are going to have a dinner/dance Saturday evening at their hotel. Parents can attend this function for an additional $40 per person. This amount should be added to the final payment. Wreath Sale: There are sign-up sheets for wreath unloading volunteering. Spirit Wear: Mary Ellen Pifko is available for taking orders for spirit wear. Orders are in and items can be picked up. Griffin bracelets are now available; they are handmade and quite beautiful. They would make great Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers. Staff Comments: The football game is on Saturday; it will be shown live on television at 7 pm on UPN Channel 50. The students will report at 5:50 pm. They will play all quarters but not halftime. IMEA participants will be performing at the festival and then joining the band at the football game. If the football team advances to the state championships, the game will be on Saturday, November 25th at 4 pm. More details will be available if the team advances. Marching Band rehearsals for the San Diego trip will be on Saturday, December 2 and Saturday, December 16th. They are scheduled from 9-1. There will be limited rehearsal time before the competition in CA. The trip meeting and Booster meeting will be held on December 11th, starting at 7 pm. Students should attend the meeting. There is also a college financial meeting that evening at 7. He again thanked everyone for their help in the Music Department activities. Non-perishable items are requested at all of the Music Department concerts for admission. Mr. Smith will check into distributing the junior and senior school letters during the San Diego dinner. There are certain guidelines that must be met before they can be distributed. These guidelines are different than the sports letters. Mr. Johnson reported that the Music Department received money from the Educational Foundation for a projector in the Tech Lab. Mr. Smith and Mr. Johnson will be drafting a letter regarding specific information for the San Diego trip. There are a lot of details that will be covered in this letter. A Grammy in the Schools grant has been applied for. We have been named one of the top 100 Music Departments in the country. If we reach the top 40, some funds will be earned. The Signature School gets $25,000. This application process included recordings of all the bands. Rob Callhoun, the Orchestra Director is working on this application. There were many students accepted into the IMEA groups. The concerts will be this Saturday and Mr. Johnson encouraged parents to attend. Mr. Johnson thanked everyone for helping the Winter Guard in their search for rehearsal space. Several spots outside of the school have been secured as well as some time in the school. There are now two Winter Guard units. These Guards are very talented and he encouraged everyone to attend their shows. Mrs. Lambert feels that she may be able to add a men’s choir next year. A Winter Percussion Ensemble will be created this year. They are in the process of planning it. He will keep the Boosters updated. Mr. Johnson has officially been named the Music Department Chair at LW North. Other staff members will remain at East. Mr. Johnson expects both East and North to be very strong music departments immediately after the split. Tom Blakley announced that Mr. and Mrs. Smith are expecting their first child.
