Treasurer's Reports
Mike Kaczmarski was not present. Bill Geary distributed financial statements. He gave a brief summary of the financials. There is over $36,000 in IBAs; he encouraged everyone to use these funds for traveling. In September, $19,000 from Fall Fest was added; the final income will be $5,000. Interest has been added to all accounts. Final Band Camp payment was made, as well as payments for the Holiday Bowl. Income from BOA payments is included on the financials. Holiday Bowl down-payments of $41,000 have been made so far. He reminded everyone to make their October travel payment. We are on budget for the year so far.

Staff Comments

Marching Band
Mr. Smith distributed a general overview of the San Diego trip itinerary. He briefly discussed the itinerary. There will be five flights going to San Diego and five flights returning. Students will be signing up for roommates this week; plane assignments will then be made. All flights are direct flights. A staff person will be on each flight. There will be activities for the earlier arriving students. They will be at the Mission Valley Hilton, which is about 8-10 miles from the coast. The Embassy Suites for the parents is right on the harbor in a touristy area.

The field show will be held on Wednesday, the day after arrival so there will be little to no rehearsal. In the afternoon, there will be a massed band rehearsal. There will be an activity in the evening, but nothing definite yet.

On Thursday, there will be the Holiday Bowl Parade with the Bowl Game in the evening; the band will attend the game. The winner of the Field Show Competition will be perform 5 minutes of their show pre-show; however, this probably will not be shown on television. This will end performance obligations; the rest of the trip will be fun.

On Friday, the students will be allowed to sleep in and relax. The afternoon will be spent at Sea World. That evening, there will be an awards dinner at Sea World. Sea World will be closed down for this evening. On Saturday, they will go to the San Diego Zoo in the morning; in the afternoon they will go to the beach and maybe get a tour of the aircraft carrier. There will be a dress-up dinner/dance on Friday evening for our band at the hotel. Parents on the trip may be able to attend.

On Sunday, they will return to Chicago. There will be an activity for the students on the later flights. A meeting will be held before the trip to discuss the itinerary in more detail.

The student's luggage is sent on a truck; it is not checked at the airport. The truck will be leaving on the December 22nd. The truck will be loaded on the 21st, which is during finals week. The medications will be packed on the truck. The truck will leave San Diego on December 29th to return to Chicago.

The panoramic pictures of the band will be taken at the Home Show at 2:30. Order forms will be available.

Sounds of the Stadium will be on October 26th. This year, the junior high bands will not be performing at the request of their band directors. They performed at the football game and they enjoyed themselves. A reception will be held afterwards. Parents are asked to provide sweets. Students will have a chance to take pictures. The concert will begin at 7:00. Junior high bands will be invited to attend.

Mr. Smith was very impressed with the band's performance last Saturday. They had a great performance and it was recognized by the judges and the crowd. He thanked the band parents, the School Board, Dr. Wylie and BOA for allowing the band to perform at such short notice. The band members are looking towards moving to a different performance level. He wants the band to have two great performances at ISU; Mr. Smith is not interested in their winning. It will be a great ending to a great season for them. Both Mr. Johnson and Mr. Smith are very proud of the band this year.

There are 41 bands performing at ISU; East performs at 5:16. Finals start around 7:00. The stands are cleared between preliminaries and finals. The top ten bands advance to finals. The band will attend the preliminary awards ceremony before the tailgate party.
