Towards the end of the school year, students of Lincoln-Way East High School Marching Band were invited to audition and interview for Section Leader positions in the Marching Band. On June 2, 2006, this group of the Music Departments finest gathered in the Band Room, bringing in overnight bags, sleeping equipment and musical instruments. They were off to the 2006-2007 Leadership Retreat at Epworth Forest Conference Center, Lake Webster, Indiana for a three day work session.
Interspersed with games and team building activities, the sessions gave the students a lot of information. The session on values came down to Family, Friends and Unity all perfect descriptors of the Marching Band unit. With topics that included How to Run a Sectional, What is Effective Leadership, Personality Inventories, Dealing with Challenges, Effective Communication/Positive Communication/ Barriers to Communication, and the Attributes of Success, the 2006 leadership came away with just the right tools.

Members of the Drumline, always trying to improve their chops.

"Hi mom, yeah I'm being good, and yes I brushed my teeth."

"OK, time to get down to business."

Let the games begin.
First just a friendly game of UNO to build strategy skills.

"Your serve."

Mr. and Mrs. Lambert are the directors of this year's leadership camp.

A view of the chef's kitchen

And what is a leadership retreat without a tub of Dubble Bubble?...

"What IS a leadership retreat without Dubble Bubble?"

"A leadership retreat without Dubble Bubble is like a day without sunshine"...

"Are you looking at me?"...

"Nope, I'm just reading my book."

"I'm flying.
(Flying, flying, flying)
Over bed, over chair
Duck your head, clear the air
Oh, what lovely fun
Watch me everyone
Take a look at me
And see how easily it's done
I'm flying!"
Thanks to Mr. Smith and Colin Therriault for providing the pictures for this event.
