The
Lincoln-Way East Griffins' batterie drumline was given a rare opportunity
when they marched to Symphony Center in Chicago to perform alongside
the area's premier music organization, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
The
percussionists performed in a set of concerts with the CSO Friday
and Saturday, November 12 and 13.
Conducted
by maestro Duain Wolfe, members of the CSO, along with 15 musicians
from the Marching Griffins presented a concert titled "Parade!"
as part of the Kraft Family Matinee Series.
The
percussionists opened the concert with an upbeat cadence and helped
close the performance with a rendition of Meredith Wilson's "76
Trombones," the well-known work from "The Music Man."
The
Marching Griffins drum major, played the character role of drum major
for this concert, interacting with the conductor as part of the presentation.
The
Lincoln-Way East musicians' presence in full marching uniform added
a touch of authenticity to the concert of music regularly associated
with American parades.
