Lincoln-Way East Concert BandsPhilosophy & Goals
The goals of the Lincoln-Way East Band Program are:
A "fusion" area for other subjects, the LWE Concert Band program fosters the highest performance standards while offering its members an opportunity to expand their technical, intellectual, and musical horizons. It is devoted to the study, preparation, and performance of quality traditional and contemporary literature. The curriculum is designed to emphasize the development of comprehensive musicianship, general musical knowledge, and instrumental performance fundamentals through the study of mid-level and advanced high school literature.
The goals of the Lincoln-Way East Band Program are:
- To study, rehearse, and prepare music to the highest level of understanding and excellence so that students can experience the excitement of sharing musical gifts with other through performance.
- To provide students with an opportunity to be a part of the greater whole – to know that each individual is equally important to the success of the entire group.
- To learn about ourselves through the journey of studying, preparing, and performing music that will help make us better people.

Symphonic Band
Semesters: 2
Credits: 1
Grade Placement: 9, 10, 11, or 12
Graduation Requirement: Elective.
Course Sequence: Previous instrumental experience is advantageous.
Other Prerequisites: Band placement audition in January/February.
Student and Staff Organization: Traditional. Group instruction is balanced with individual attention and assessment.
Course Overview:
The Symphonic Band has a performance schedule throughout the school year, which includes four regularly scheduled concerts. All members are eligible to participate in any music extra curricular activity. Members are expected to practice individually and in extra rehearsals or sectionals. Private instruction is highly encouraged. It is strongly recommended that students own their own instruments; however, specialized school owned instruments may be available with a rental fee.

The Wind Ensemble is the most select performance ensemble at Lincoln-Way East High School. This very talented group holds specific instrumentation and a maximum enrollment of approximately 38 musicians. The Wind Ensemble has a very active performance schedule including regularly scheduled school concerts, specialty programs, local concerts, ILMEA, and numerous festivals and competitions throughout the state. All members are eligible to participate in any music extra curricular activity. Members are expected to practice individually on a frequent basis and in extra rehearsals or sectionals. Students in this group are expected to study with a private lesson teacher. It is strongly recommended that students own their own instruments; however, specialized school owned instruments may be available with a rental fee.
